Essential Tool for Studying for Your PMP

I often get asked for tips on how to study for your CAPM or PMP certification exam. A few tools were helpful to me when learning the PMBOK model and studying for the PMP exam.

I imagine this may be a hotly debated topic as each person has tools that best prepared them for their own exam. The following resources are the must haves...

  • PMBOK book (you get a free copy when you join PMI.org)

  • Flash cards of inputs, tools, and outputs

  • Practice exams

In addition, and at a minimum, I highly suggest you acquire the following tool.

The PMP EXAM: How to Pass On Your First Try - Quick Reference Guide by Andy Crowe, PMP

This quick reference guide provides the most concise, condensed overview of the 10 knowledge areas, 5 process groups, and 47 processes in the PMBOK model. The inputs, tools, and outputs for each process are laid out clearly, organized by each of the 10 knowledge areas. Simple diagrams help illustrate key points, such as the layout of the WBS, Expected Monetary Value, 7 Basic Quality Tools, etc.

If you are studying for your PMP, acquire this tool for your study kit. You can purchase on Amazon.com.

What resources would you recommend for studying the PMBOK model for the CAPM or PMP exam?
